Identity and Perception

Drug Alcohol Testing, Alcohol Drug TestingAh, perception. It is the little thing which makes you wave at someone on the street and come to find out that they were not waving at you, but someone else. It makes you think that someone is leaning in close romantically and you kiss them, when in fact they were just trying to whisper something to you. It makes you treat your best friend in horrible ways, when you later find out that one of their parents died and that they were just hurting and needed support, instead. It makes you take innocent flirtation with your boss to a whole new level, and then you find out that he or she flirts innocently with everyone and that they do not actually have deep, longing feelings for you. Isn’t perception great…and embarrassing?

The above situations are all likely to happen to the most ordinary of individuals, and many more situations follow this which can be named. There is the husband and wife who decide to go skinny dipping in the hotel pool, only to receive a round of applause from the hotel dining room when they walk in and realize that the swimming pool has a clear wall that is set up in the dining room as a decoration. There is the expected marriage proposal which turns out to be a public dumping so that you do not make a scene. Clearly, the list can go on. These happen to ordinary, well-rounded, perfectly average people every day.

If you think that is bad, you should see inside the mind of an addict. These individuals have such skewed perceptions, that behavior which they exhibit and anyone else would see as nothing to comment on suddenly becomes very embarrassing and blown way out of proportion inside of their head. They are unable to relax because they are certain that everyone thinks horrible about them. Everything becomes very personal to and with them.

If your jobsite is in danger from off-the-wall behavior like this, you might consider using employee drug testing to evaluate if this is due to abuse. Workplace drug testing is very effective in calming perception, at least keeping it somewhat under control. Call Mediscreen today: (+61) 1300 79 70 40.
