Dealing with Background Noise

Onsite Drug & Alcohol Testing Background noise takes on many forms and shapes, not the least of which is actual, real noise in the background of your jobsite or home. It is important to recognize how important the noise actually is to your daily life, if it is something you will get used to over time, if it is absolutely unequivocally distracting, or if it is something that you have already begun to forget. As annoying as temporary noises are, if you know them to be short lived, it may not be enough to complain about. However, if it is something which really truly distracts you and continues to be a problem, then you might want to speak out about it. First, however, do your homework.

If it is noise that you know will be ongoing unless you say something about it, then consider how much of it will be background noise after you become used to it, i.e. after a few days of that particular volume. Then, after understanding your adaptability a little better, make your decision. If the volume is adjustable, you might have to wait a week or two before really coming out with a complaint, because different volumes will be more or less acceptable and, in addition to this, they will become more tolerable over time. So, by the end of this, you may have a situation which is completely acceptable since you have waited and adapted so well to it. This is not even mentioning the fact that it creates better personal relations with your neighbors and neighboring businesses if you are not known for constantly coming over and complaining about something.

Other noise can include constant complaining from a coworker, personal attacks on your performance or any other detail of your life by your boss, or anything else you wish to god that you could just tune out at a moment’s notice. Approach the problem much like the auditory noises, and you may find yourself tuning them out faster than you ever realized.
