Whether you are an atheist, a Christian, a Muslim, a Buddhist or some other faith, you probably agree that sentiency is something that defines a spirit, not just a physical body. Part of being human is that we possess a part of ourselves which is not exactly physical. Interestingly enough, we often only think of satisfying physical needs, such as eating and sleeping and sunshine. We only consciously think about feeding ourselves physically, even though we believe in this non-physical part of ourselves. How do we feed that part, and how important is it to do this?
Here is a good definition of something which feeds your spirit: an object, person or experience which makes you feel good or puts you in a good mood without actually satisfying a physical need of your body. Listening to music that you like is an example of this. Playing sports you love, solving puzzles, appreciating art, playing with your dog or your children, riding roller coasters, and vacationing are all things which feed your spirit if you love them.
How important is it to feed your spirit? If you only make a certain amount of money and can barely pay your bills and eat, then you are not likely to give either of those physical needs up in order to go to the opera. However, if you constantly work to fulfill physical needs, then you can become stressed easily and give up easily and can turn into a hard, unfeeling, uncreative version of yourself.
Obviously, both physical and spiritual needs are important and are necessary. Fortunately, many spiritual needs can be satisfied for free. A walk down a country road, a swim in a warm pool, or reading beside a fragrant lilac bush is all spiritual food. In fact, reading a book you enjoy feeds your spirit, too. So, happily, it is not necessary to choose between these two worlds when budgeting your spending for the week.
Physical needs are not always free, and employee drug and alcohol testing for your business definitely counts as a physical need. The confidence, surety, and protection it brings, though, is definitely a spiritual satisfaction. Call Mediscreen today: (+61) 1300 79 70 40.
