Thinking is learned, and one of the primary ways that we learn how to think as children is through our environment.

Of course, the brain can adapt and become acclimatized to any type of thinking, so nothing is entirely permanent, but it is a habitual process that, if left unchecked, will simply continue to produce the same synapse variations if the child is in danger or left stressed out over a long period of time. In adulthood, onsite drug and alcohol testing becomes necessary because of these deficiencies, not only in the inherent thinking of the adult, but also in the actual brain connections or depletions which are still being formed and reformed within their minds.
