Political correctness and lack of decorum have made personal preference a little more controversial these days. If someone wants to say they like something, particularly if they say it on social media, they attract both agreement and dissent, both support and controversy, even if they say something basic and polite like, “I like flowers. I wish we had more flowers around here.” Responses to their social media statement might include, “I think our area is just fine the way it is and if you don’t like it, you are welcome to leave!” and “I love roses. My grandma used to have a beautiful rose garden but then she died and her house sold,” and “What kind of flowers do you like? My favorite are daffodils,” and “What we REALLY need around here is higher education. How can you think about flowers when our children are suffering from a corrupt school system?!!?”
As you can see, even the plainest and simplest of comments brings on…uh, extra…stuff.

It really seems to be quite simple if you think about it, but even jokes are censored by other people because they may be perceived as a little off color when in fact they are the tamest jokes you happen to know. It all depends upon context. It all depends upon subjective opinion.
