WORKPLACE HEALTH AND WELLNESS

MEDISCREEN™ WORKPLACE HEALTH AND WELLNESS

When it comes to good health there is no doubt that prevention is better than cure and health surveillance of your most important asset, your people, is a top priority. Mediscreen™, a proud West Australian company is pleased to present employers with a range of Workplace Health And Wellness options to assist with keeping their employees in good health and feeling well.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD) also known as coronary artery disease (CAD) and Cardiovascular Disease (CVD) remains the cause of more deaths in Australia(1) than any other disease and although the warnings are heavily publicised many people are not fully aware of the risk factors and the impact of today’s busy lifestyles on our health.

Mediscreen™ aim to promote awareness and accountability by providing your employees with a snapshot of their current health status and presenting them with a comparison of the desirable targets (readings) across a range of risk factor indicators. The employee will then be encouraged to visit their health care professional for further investigation and treatment if necessary. Mediscreen™ will not give advice other than to suggest one should see their health care professional.

Mediscreen™ will keep the results private and confidential at all times in fact we do not record your employee’s name and the unidentified results are used to provide an overview of the health of your workforce in general.

WHAT’S IN IT FOR ME AS AN EMPLOYER?

  • First and foremost – show that you appreciate and care for the health and wellbeing of your much valued employee’s and in turn their families and loved ones.
  • Add value to your company and become an employer who recognises the most valuable resource the business has – its human resource.
  • The performance of your workers is impacted by their health and general wellbeing and a healthy workforce is a productive one.
  • Reduce absenteeism and accidents due to ill health and poor performance and improve your bottom line as a result.

WHAT IS ON OFFER?

A general health assessment focussed on the risk factors that may lead to CHD or diabetes may alert an employee to an existing condition or simply raise awareness. Mediscreen™ will focus on the following:

Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is the pressure of the blood in the arteries as the heart pumps it around the body and is usually recorded as 120/70 for example. The larger number is the systolic pressure (as the heart beats) over the diastolic pressure (as the heart relaxes before the next beat).

Cholesterol Check

Cholesterol is a type of fat found in human cells and it is essential to many body functions. Excess total blood cholesterol can gradually clog the blood vessels supplying the heart and other parts of the body and as a result contribute to high blood pressure, heart disease and stroke.

Our Non fasting check (TC-HDL-GLU) measures total cholesterol (TC), a measure of the total amount of cholesterol in the blood and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (referred to as “good cholesterol”) in addition to glucose (GLU), a measure of blood sugar. This test also calculates the TC/HDL ratio and non-HDL cholesterol.

Our fasting check measures total cholesterol (TC), a measure of the total amount of cholesterol in the blood and high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (“good cholesterol”) and triglycerides or TRG (fatty acids and glycerol that circulate in the blood and are stored as body fat). Lipid profile also calculates the TC/HDL ratio, non-HDL cholesterol and estimates the level of LDL cholesterol (“bad cholesterol”). Fasting from 9pm the night before is required (water only).

Spirometry

A spirometer is an apparatus for measuring the volume of air inspired and expired by the lungs. The results from a spirometry test help determine if a person has any airflow problems that could be the result of COPD, asthma, or restrictive lung disease. The results from this test can also identify smokers who are developing COPD and evaluate the effects of workplace exposure to lung irritants. COPD – Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, a progressive disease which makes it hard to breathe.

Height and Weight – BMI

Height and weight are recorded and then calculated through formula to produce an end figure. This figure can then be referenced to a table and results determined. This index is considered a guide only and other factors need to be considered.

Health Questionnaire

A series of targeted questions designed to encourage an individual to question their current wellbeing though a private and confidential self-assessment. The employee is asked to answer the series of questions with a yes or no and a NO response to any of the questions indicates they should see their health care professional.
